WordPress -- The
Best!
Wordpress is a great software (and free) that is
very easy to use. There really is nothing else like it.
It's easy to download and easy to get on your site. If your
host has Fantastico in the control panel, it's just the click of a
button to having the database and the program installed and being in
business within minutes. You are ready to do your first blog
post using your brand new Wordpress software. If you feel
confident enough, you can install Wordpress yourself using any
number of ftp programs, such as Filezilla.
Unlike
Wordpress, most blog programs require you to be on the Internet and
ready to post immediately. With Wordpress, you can work
offline, taking the time to do just the right blog post. You
can edit many times until you're ready to post. You don't have
to be connected to the Internet to accomplish this task.
The best feature of Wordpress, in my opinion, is the vast
number of plugins that can be added to the application. There
are plugins for just about everything you want to do on your
blog. Since Wordpress is free and open source (meaning anyone
can change the code), independent programmers are constantly coming
up with new ways to make Wordpress more user friendly.
There
are plugins to add videos, photos, news feeds and pretty much any
other function you think would be cool to use on your blog.
You can spend days just playing with the various plugins available
(no . . . I haven't done that . . .). Also, most individual
plugins can be changed to suit your needs.
Another
great benefit to having your blog on Wordpress is how easy it is to
use once you are ready to post. You can have a blog that looks
just like the best websites with just as many colors and flashy
things as you like. Some blogging applications make things much too
complicated. Wordpress is as easy to use as your own word
processor. You don't have to know code to be able to
post. This adds to up a program that is capable of doing
anything you would like. You can have a very attractive site that
will encourage visitors to stay awhile and read what you have
posted. There are literally thousands of blog templates
available for every taste imaginable. Take a look at our blog
resources page for a list of the dozens of sites where you can find
just the right blog theme template. Yet another feature is the
ease of changing templates and also the ability to change the theme
code itself.
One final thing I should mention is about
hosting your own blog. If you want to monetize your blog with
any kind of advertizing, you will need to have it hosted on your own
site. Wordpress will host your blog for free, but you will not
be able to have any ads.
Happy blogging!
